Private Icecave Tour

Private day tour to the Icecave of Werfen and Castle Hohenwerfen

We drive a long the river Salzach all through the Salzach gorge to the Ice Cave of Werfen. I will take you all the way up to the cable car and further to the entrance of the cave. The visit of the cave takes 75 minutes with a local guide. After the tour you have the possibility to have lunch at the mountain. Then we visit the village of Werfen and the Castle Hohenwerfen. This castle offers a spectaculary birdshow.

After the birdshow we will drive back to Salzburg.

We used Didi to transfer us from Salzburg to Munich with a stop to visit Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle and lunch in the town of Füssen. He accommodated the schedule to what we wanted to do and see.  The entire trip was smooth and seamless except for a lost passport.  Didi was so helpful and supportive.  We learned so much from him and grateful for all the tips to get our bearings in Munich.  Thanks Didi for a wonderful time.

Very comfortable and spacious van. Had 5 adults, 7 large suitcases and 2 sets skis which fitted easily. Didi has incredible knowledge of Austrian culture and history. Very adaptable and happy to go via the features we nominated. Saw Admont Abbey, beautiful, incredible library and the Monk’s wines for sale were good. Hallstatt unbelievable!!! Picturesque, quaint, breathtaking and a must do. Village and lake just stunning. An incredible, no hassle way to transfer door to door from Vienna to Salzburg, and make that trip part of a very memorable holiday. Highly recommend Didi and his van.

Friendly, easygoing and adaptable, this tour covered the highlights of Salzburg, and some special ones he specifically included knowing our interests. THIS is the way to visit the Sound of Music sites without a big bus or crowds of people and with a personal touch.  DiDi is from Salzburg and wove stories of his childhood as well as accounts from his father and grandfather into the places we visited.  He knows the area intimately, and made the experience quite enjoyable.  We visited Eagle’s Nest as well as Mozart locations and Sound of Music Locations.  While there is a fair amount of driving (we were coming from Munich), our time was maximized and we got to see and experience everything on our ‚wish list‘ and never felt rushed.  Wonderful tour!

Didi gave us a tour of the Berchtesgaden area of Bavaria in June 2023. We went to the Eagle's Nest, took a boat ride on Konigssee, and spent a little time walking around the Berchtesgaden Village. It was a very full day seeing the most unbelievable scenery any of us had ever experienced. Based on our request, Didi immediately made adjustment to the route, first went to lake Königsee with a boat ride to St Bartholomeo - the scenery was absolutely beautiful and tranquil. Our group of eight recently toured Hallstatt and the Lakes district with Didi and we all agreed it was the highlight of our trip. Didi was on time, professional and very accommodating. What a fun tour. We had a great time with DiDi. He was knowledgeable and patient. He gave us lots of information on our drive. We hit a snag in traffic on our return to boat, but DiDi knew the roads and back ways and we got back on time. Highly recommend his tour.

Didi tailored a tour based on our requests for specific Sound of Music locations while ending in our transfer to Hallstatt. Excellent guide. Met us at our river cruise dock In Passau on time. His comments and destinations were on spot. He catered to the needs of our group of 6. He has access a par of Salzberg that is not normally on any other guided tour. The lunch spot he pointed us to was just perfect. he took a different route back to our ship to show us other highlights of the area. His memory of dates,places, Kings and Queens and history was incredible. An extremely capable dependable guide for the area.

Our family of five adults had an excellent day with Didi. After our reservation was made through Tours by Locals, I started communicating directly with Didi and he was very easy to communicate with and very prompt at answering my questions. On the day of the tour, he arrived on time in a very comfortable van for our group and was able to pick us up directly at our Airbnb location. Didi was wonderful and I am not sure how one person can maintain so much knowledge but he has figured it out. He knew so many wonderful details about the region and we loved the tour. The only complaint I have is that the van holds a max of 8 people (9 including the driver) and it was a bit tight. I sat in the back row, middle of three seats and could not see really well which made me feel a bit motion sick... but that is me. I feel like it would be significantly more comfortable for 6 guests.

Loved Didi! He took us to Salzberg to see where the Sound of music was filmed. Along the way we made many stops to see the Alps still snow capped at the very top. Our focus was visiting places that we part of the Sound of Music movie. The women in our group were over the top in the organization of the tour and the sights that we saw. We were very pleased with DiDi and his service and detail. For example making an umbrella available when necessary and helping to find requested shopping stops. Didi was an amazing tour guide! We only spent one full day in Salzburg, but it was a day well spent as he showed us all around the city as well as driving us up into the mountains to see some of the beautiful lakes and towns that surround the city. He had SO much history to tell us about all of the sites we visited, as well as suggested some great restaurants and bars to try when we got back from the tour. Didi is a very good guide and we are really pleased with his service and behaviour. We had a bad luck that we stuck on the mountain as cable car stopped working suddenly. Dietmar "Didi" was incredible - he was a perfect fit for us! Not only was Didi a wealth of knowledge, that he shared openly with us, but he has a great sense of humor. We are communicated prior to our tour and Didi knew everything we had wanted to do - we even asked him to pick a place for lunch & he that as well (btw, M32 was the place - the food was fabulous but only surpassed by the view! Didi was an excellent guide. Unfortunately, he didn't realize we'd purchased the Salzburg pass until later in our tour, so we were unable to take full advantage of the pass until late in the tour. It was still a great tour of Salzburg, and I would definitely recommend him for a day tour of the city. Didi was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and the various sites, and we saw so much more as a result than if we'd tried to see the sights on our own. Very thorough!

This was a long day, as we knew it would be given where we were going. Didi showed us the quarry and a nearby subcamp. Traffic was a bit of a bear on the return journey and we spent time trying to find a less congested way. The camp, though, is worth the hassle of the trip to get there and back. We found the memorials erected by various countries very moving, as we were again reminded of how horrible war is and of the terror that Hitler imposed.

We were two couples traveling on a Viking Cruise. We met Didi right at our ship and spent the next 9 hours touring Austria. He is a prompt, knowledgeable, and personable guide and driver and we had a great time. We travelled to Salzburg on one route, spent an amazing time in Salzburg including a great lunch, and then he brought us back a different route through the lakes of Austria. DIDI gets a 10!. What an awesome guide-a wealth of knowledge who went above and beyond, staying hours every day beyond our tour end times to make sure we saw everything we wanted. Got us quickly and first in line everywhere,every restaurant reservation we wanted,tour ,boat ride, and even booked a 5 star hotel at half price last minute when our booking fell thru. Gave us euros when our atm card didn't work. He knew the history of every town, historical person, every city, etc, - best 3 days of our trip!

We enjoyed our day with Didi from the moment we met him at our hotel! He personalized the tour for us to include seeing The St Nicolas church and Franz Gruber's home in Hallein which was very special to us! Seeing The Eagles Nest and the sight of where Hitlers home was and simply Didi's wealth of knowledge of Austrian and German history was fantastic!!! I am writing on behalf of my client who is still traveling. Here is what he had to say: Deitner, the tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and very nice. However, he only had one speed and it was way too fast and way too much…we think he literally talked for 95% of the 4hrs we did the walking tour. It was impossible to get word in edgewise. He was nice and knew his history, but it was honestly painful…I would never use him again.

Salzburg is a World culture heritage with 42 churches,palaces,birthplace of Mozart,Doppler,Karajan and many others. City of the Sound of Music etc. They had done by themselves already the Mozartmuseum and wanted to do the Fortress too. As this I walked with them to places where they haven't been. As well as information for shops, bars and restaurant.

Didi was outstanding. He took us to all the filming spots in the movie The Sound Of Music. He even took us into Germany to show us where the filming was done for the opening sceen of the movie. Dietmar was an incredibly accommodating guide. We threw a couple of curve balls at him and he handled them with aplomb. Even when there was a traffic accident on the auto barn which caused a delay getting home he threw in a visit to Red bull world to pass the time. Didi is a wonderful guide! My family and I truly enjoyed our tour of Salzburg and the "Sound of Music" sights in the city and countryside. I had an unforgettable tour of Salzburg! Didi's knowledge of the city's history, its people and its culture made the visit even more exciting. Of course we went to all the sites related to the "Sound of Music" but as we walked through he explained all the other landmarks. He also drove his minibus and we went to the hills of Salzburg as well as the lake towns outside of the city. Our afternoon with Dietmar was wonderful. He is extraordinarilý knowledgeable and is a wonderful storyteller. He made all aspects of Salzburg history and life interesting. He speaks English beautifully. We had six people from Canada, Zealand and the US. Everyone understood him perfectly. He has a terriffic sense of humor and was great fun with whom to spend an afternoon.

Didi was excellent and very knowledgeable - started telling us about Salzburg and it's environs from the moment we left the hotel and then took us on a beautifully scenic route to Berchtesgaden. He even managed to fit in a trip to see Hangar 7 on the way back. Would highly recommend him as a tour guide - great comfortable and easy way to see Salzburg and it's surroundings.

Didi was a pleasant and very knowledgeable tour guide. He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Munich which made it very convenient for us. The only thing that I would have done differently is more communication up front about what we wanted. My family wasn't in to the history of churches, etc. and would have liked to spend some family time walking through Old Salzburg, picking our own restaurant and a doing bit of shopping.

My 17 yo niece/nephew and I spent a day with Didi and it was great. When reserving I requested a change in venues from the listed tour and Didi was very accomodating. We visited the ice caves,alpine slide and salt mines. Whilst driving to the various places Didi was a wealth of knowledge on the area and went out of his way to show us highlights we may have missed. Truly it was a very pleasant day.To cap it off he very graciously offered to take us to the train the next day. A true gentleman! Danke Didi!

Didi arrived on time and took us on the trail of the Sound of Music film. Our tour was greatly enhanced very his knoweledge information. His van even got WIFI which was very handy. My fellow companions were so impressed with Didi that they are planning to utilise his services on their next European trip. I have booked him for 2 trips but unfortunately he can't make it the following day and sent someone else instead.
